I had never done Pilates before and was unsure of the type of mat to get. I read several reviews and decided on this one. Good choice. It is thick and very long. Upon first receiving, it does have a "rubber" smell but it goes away after washing and with use. The company sends info on how to best wash it prior to use. I didn't find the smell offensive as other reviewers commented, and I am pregnant so smells are heightened for me. I use my mat every day and am very pleased....

I bought this because I began doing beginner yoga/ ab workouts. It works great on the hard floor and it pads my knees and back very well during various exercises. The reason for the 4 stars is that I do slip when doing downward dog and while I do sit ups. I don't have a lot of experience with yoga mats, so I don't know if that is a typical problem with yoga mats. Overall, I am pretty satisfied for the price.
Also I am not incredibly tall, 6'1", and this yoga mat fits the entire length of my body....
