These are great quality mats, especially for the price. My wife and I are using them for our P90x and Insanity workouts and you cannot tell there is a tile floor underneath them. We were on the fence between the 1/2" and 3/4", but happy we went with the 1/2". It seems to be about the perfect balance of support without being too spongy. I would not want anything thinner on a hard surface. They fit together easily and do not slide or move on the floor (I did not put down any adhesive). With all of the up and downs in Insanity, these are the perfect mats....

I ordered these mats specifically to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in my house. I took a chance on the thickness as I had never purchased mats before. The 1/2" thick should be fine for medium-high intensity ground work. You won't feel the floor through the mats unless you do something like elbow straight down in to them. That being said, I wouldn't take the chance of doing throws or shooting takedowns without knee pads. If you land flat you should be fine but any angle from a height might get you banged up. Also, I'm 175 lbs so your results may vary.

100 sq ft gives you a nice 10x10ft area which is far more than you get on a crowded mat when training at a school. I'd recommend this exact order. Certainly worth the $.

If you're thinking about going thinner you MIGHT be able to get away with it if you only plan on drilling or flow rolling. At 1/2" I think you could turn up the intensity just short of throws and still be safe....

We've had the mats for a oouple months, and we've been very happy with the purchase.

1. No annoying smell

2. Everything fit together as planned (you will likely have extra 'edge' pieces which is nice in case something gets damaged)

3. Although with heavy items (weights, treadmill, etc...) these mats will dent, and initially it seems permanent. However, I've noticed that over time the dents diminish to the point where it's not obvious or annoying. (I'm only using my dumbells for this assessment. I would imagine dents from something very heavy may not come back as well.)

Overall, no complaints....
