I bought this bench from Hugger Mugger 10 yrs ago and it has been great. I recently bought another one assuming it would be the same quality. Sadly, it is not. The current version is inferior. The wood is not finished, the hinges are small and cheap and do not secure the legs properly. In fact, one hinge was loose and the other was misplaced so that leg doesn't open and set properly. I have no problem if a company raises the price to maintain quality but don't raise the price and lower the quality....

If you meditate in a group and move at all during meditation, this bench might be a bit too squeaky. It's got metal hinges (come to think of it, maybe you could grease them a bit to get rid of the squeak without making a mess) to fold it down. That also makes it a little less stable.
If you don't think you need to be able to fold it down, you're probably better off with a solid construction without hinges....

Hugger Mugger Meditation Bench (Plum)I LOVE THIS BENCH!! I have experienced severe hip pain during extended meditations on a traditional cusion. Using a bench has eliminated that. One of the reviews of this product complained that it was squeaky, however, mine has not had that problem. It is lightweight and easy to carry, and the removable cusion is very comfortable. I would definitely recommend this product....
