I wanted a wider yoga mat, since I'm rather a large guy, so was happy to find this 36" one. It arrived a two days ago and I opened the box up, unwrapped the plastic, and put it in my office. Several hours later I walked into the office and smelled this horrible stench, like burning plastic. I spent the next four hours trying to figure out what was on fire in the office, turning off computer components, checking wiring, and eventually killing power to the front rooms of my home from the breaker box for fear of an electrical fire in the walls or attic (I spent some time with my nose in the attic as well...).
It was then that I figured out the smell was coming from the yoga mat; some kind of off-gassing as part of the manufacturing process, I'd guess. Now it's new home is outside in the yard, spread out. It can come back in when it stops smelling!
Anyway, if you need a wide mat, this is a good size...just be warned about the smell; it may cause significant loss of sleep....
