Our YogaAccessories™ 5mm Eco-Conscious Yoga Mat is completely non-toxic, biodegradable, recyclable, and contains no latex, PVC, or rubber. During the production of the mat, no toxic materials are used and waste is minimized and recycled back into the production process. The mat is made from a newly patented material composed of carbon and hydrogen called TPE (Thermal Plastic Elastomer), which is a closed-cell foam that gives excellent support while preventing water absorption allowing for easy cleaning. The mats are textured on each side, have fantastic traction, and are non-slip. This is the perfect choice for those who might have an allergic reaction to natural rubber yet still desire an eco-friendly yoga mat. The mats are available in 5mm and 8mm thicknesses. The 5mm is just a little thinner than our extra thick 1/4'' mat, while the 8mm is considerably thicker. For comparison, note that a true 1/4'' mat is 6.2mm thick.

While this mat is sticky to the touch and is a great thickness to cushion my bad knee, it is Terrible for hot yoga! It's slippery without sweat, but as soon as you get slightly damp, watch out! Furthermore, I do hot enough yoga to sweat a lot and the mat just soaks in some of it and then has these wet super slippery spots. My down dog becomes a danger zone. I'd keep it for low key in home use, but not in the studio. I have washed it several times and valiantly used it for a month to see if it would get better and no luck....

I liked the eco friendly promise of this mat as well as its thickness, but was disappointed with the lack of "stickiness". The texture and cushion combined in a way that made it very difficult to prevent my hands and feet from slowly creeping along the mat. It reminded me of practicing with a dry yoga rug or yogitoes -- it would be possible to avoid slipping, but the majority of your focus in the pose would be on the related muscle action....

I love that this mat is good for the environment and even though it says it is biodegradable it is not falling apart or losing its bounce.
And because it has the closed cell technology even on cold winter days the temperature from the studio floor does not reach me.
It is nice to have a product that not only cares about us as consumers but also for the process in which it is made and for the after effect it has on the earth.
