One of Natural Fitness's founding principles is to tread lightly on the earth. They aim to offset the environmental impact that results from the manufacturing and distribution of their products. To achieve this, the company created their Zero Impact Program (ZIP). While Natural Fitness is always looking for new and creative ways to offset their eco-footprint, here’s is what the company is currently doing:

Plant-A-Tree Initiative: For every product sold, Natural Fitness will fund the planting of a tree, which can remove up to 2,000 pounds of pollution from the atmosphere. Through various partner organizations, the company hopes to improve the lives of people around the world by implementing sustainable land-use programs utilizing the trees provided. Locations for planting trees vary; but past projects have been conducted throughout Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Each location and project is researched and developed to implement the most effective plan possible; one that is best for the people and eco-system involved. Offsetting the eco-footprint of their employees and offices. Offering the most products available. Use a "green" web host company that utilizes solar panels to power its data center and office. Partnering with like-minded companies to raise public awareness about the environmental problems created through use of fossil fuels and other non-sustainable practices. Using recycled content paper in business cards, letterhead, envelopes, labels, checks, and printer/copier paper. All of the product packaging and inserts that Natural Fitness uses are made with recycled paper. Using recycled packaging materials and boxes in the company's warehouse. They also pack with old newspapers and other recyclable paper products. Helped create the Chicago Biodiesel Co-op, which educated, promotes, and produces locally-derived biofuels. Greening the company's comprehensive recycling program and using natural light when possible. This review is from: Natural Fitness Divine Natural Rubber Yoga Mat (24-Inch x 75-Inch x 5/16-Inch)

've been practicing yoga seriously for eight years, and have never had a mat I loved more. Between the mats I've personally owned (including two Mandukas) and the mats that have cycled through the yoga studio I have attended for years (including Lululemon and Gaiam among others) I've seen me some mats, and this one is about as perfect as a mat can get.

For starters, it's incredibly durable. One of the reasons I decided to pick one up was that the studio I attend replaced all their mats with Natural Fitness mats last year. These mats get used for several classes a day (people are on them for 6 or more hours a day, every day!) and have been in use at my studio for a year. So far there is no breakdown whatsoever! Unbelievable. The mats we've had in the past would start to shed pieces or develop holes within weeks or months. Not this mat! The studio mats look pretty much like they did when we first got 'em.

Second, the surface is amazingly non-slip, even when your hands get sweaty! There are varying degrees of slip factor to almost any mat, but apparently not this one (unless you're wearing lotion, and then, that's not really the mat). Not even my Manduka (which is also incredibly durable, though not as comfy) is as non-slip as the N.F. mat.

Third, it's very pliable and lightweight, making it easy to lug around and even travel with. It doesn't hold creases after being folded, though I do generally roll mine, the mats at the studio are always folded in piles and never seem to suffer for it, even the one or two that sit on the bottom of the pile for a while.

Now...about the smell. Yeah, the natural rubber is stinky when you first get it. I hung mine outside for a few days, but you could also hang it in a little-used room with good ventilation. It takes a little while, but the smell does fade, and the mat is so worth the wait!

A kickass mat at a decent price. Go for it!

Update: I've had it for a year now, and there is a small amount of wear where I put my hands and feet. Other than that it's holding up great!...

I love this mat! I'm tall, so the standard length mats don't work so well for me. This is much better. It's really grippy and the extra thickness makes it soft and lets you sink into it a little even though it's rubber. I love the fact that it always lays down flat no matter which side is up. This is a heavy mat, though, so be warned - you will want a good bag to carry it in.

I only wish it had more color choices....
