I bought this pad for my dog to use in the tent when camping. I got the idea from someone else on the internet. My dog needs a place to sleep that is insulated from the cold tent floor. It is a good buy but awkward and difficult to pack. I carried outside of my backpack. It does insulate from the cold and dampness. It can be cut easily if you want less bulk. I have used it one time camping. It is easily damaged by fingernails or dognails. My dog liked laying on it. I would assume it would work the same for humans but I use a nice Thermarest for myself....

I don't own this but I do use mats of different types, from cheapo wal-mart pads, a ridge rest and have used thermarests for 15 years (or more) currently have a prolite.
If the spec are to be believed a 1/4" is very thin for a ground mat. If your intended use is summer campgrounds or backyards then it'd be OK but for $10 you can get a thicker mat from any big sports store. For $30-$40 you can get a Thermarest z-rest that will keep you warmer and last a lot longer. Or you could by this and get a $10 lesson in quality....
