Just to preface, I am not a gym or exercise class person. I do not like working out and have never taken a yoga class, but I do like exercising whenever I can work up the motivation in the privacy of my own home.

I had recently stopped doing my physical therapy exercises for my core (due to recovering from a herniated disc), but I wanted something to help me keep my core at least a little in shape and improve my balance. Since I can't afford a gym or yoga classes in my area even if I wanted to go to one, I saw this yoga mat mentioned in an MSN article and thought it was a genius idea!

The DVD that comes with it is great for learning the correct form and position that each move needs, but I had started doing the moves on the mat without having watched the DVD, and it was easy enough just looking at the pictures on the mat. Just by looking at the photos, I know how to position my hands and body for the most part, and the DVD helped to clarify any confusion I had on any of the moves. I also love how I can see which moves would only exacerbate my recovery from a herniated disc and which ones were similar (if not exactly the same) as some of the physical therapy exercises I had done.

My favorite thing about the mat is that I don't feel bored or repetitive with the moves, which...I'm not sure how to explain! When doing my PT exercises, I was referring to either a list or just my own memory, and for some reason it just seems so much more tedious doing that than just looking at the mat. Maybe with the yoga moves, not having to think too much about what you need to do and when/how just helps greatly in the relaxation and enjoyment of the exercises. Since using the mat right before I go to bed, I've found that I've fallen asleep a lot faster than I did before (I've always had problems with that part!) and I slept more deeply, so I really do think that the yoga (and the mat) helped me immensely with that part. My PT exercises NEVER relaxed me!

Overall, I think these mats are just a great idea in general, and I am hoping to progress to the point where I can do ALL of the exercises on the mat! So far, with only about a month of use (about 5 times per week), I've already upped the "breath length" of the exercises I do to ten each and can do those easily....

This mat works beautifully and the poses that are featured on the mat are great for the beginner (which I am!) to understand how to do Yoga. The mat for me is just the right thickness and is easy to carry to and from classes....

This yoga mat is awesome. It's more comfortable than any I have used before. It makes it so easy to do basic yoga and everyone I have showed it to thinks it's such a great idea. I would highly recommend this product....
